9 Ways to Support Your Omaha Community this November for Giving Tuesday 2023

Share this Post:

November is not just about Thanksgiving; it’s also National Gratitude Month, a time to reflect on the blessings in our lives and express gratitude.

One wonderful way to show your gratitude is by giving back to your community, and what better time to do so than during Giving Tuesday on November 28th 2023?

Omaha, known for its strong sense of community, offers numerous opportunities for you to make a positive impact.

Here are some ways to support the Omaha community this November.

Giving Tuesday

1. Giving Tuesday – November 28th 2023

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a day to simply encourage others to do good. This has grown into a global movement. Wow, that’s called impact! Locally, Share Omaha has provided ways to give back locally on Giving Tuesday. Share Omaha connects you with over 600 nonprofit organizations in the area. You can give now to the nonprofits of your choice at SHAREomaha.org with the donation code GIVINGTUESDAY to be counted among those who are taking action. Your contribution will help these organizations continue their valuable work in the community.

2. Donate Your H+H Achiever’s Points

Did you know that as an H+H associate, you can donate money using your Achievers points to local and national nonprofits that are meaningful to you? This is an easy way to give back, and it can make a real difference in the lives of those in need. Simply go to Achievers. Simply click “catalog” on the top navigation of Achievers. On the catalog page, click “shop all”, then on the catalog menu, click “give back”. Use the search bar on the Give Back page to find the names of local or national nonprofits such as Open Door Mission, Nebraska Humane Social, and the American Heart Association to name a few.

3.Support a Local Donation Drive

This November, H+H is participating in an Adopt-a-Family program in partnership with Project Harmony. This holiday H+H Driving Good campaign will launch later in the month. H+H associates are encouraged to donate, and your contributions can bring joy to families in need. Also, Youth Emergency Services is hosting a hygiene drive throughout November, which is an excellent opportunity to provide at-risk youth with essential resources and materials they may not always have access to. Reach out to Kate Johnson, Staff Accountant at the Central office, to find out how you can donate.

Other local nonprofits, such as Open Door Mission and the Salvation Army, also host donation drives in November. Your contribution can help make the holiday season brighter for those who are less fortunate

4. Volunteer Your Time & Talents

There is no better way to share your time and unique skillset than to help others. There are over 400 local volunteer opportunities available through Share Omaha, making it easy to find a meaningful ways to give back to the community. Whether you want to lend a hand at a local shelter, support a food pantry, or offer your skills to a nonprofit, volunteering is a fulfilling way to make a difference.

5. Be a Mentor

Being a mentor to others can be life-changing. Consider offering your wisdom, advice, and knowledge to someone at work, a close friend or family member, or a child who lacks direction in life. Mentorship can happen anywhere but also consider joining an organization such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands that works to support one-on-one matches to help others.

6. Donate Blood

Giving blood is a lifesaving act of generosity. Blood donations are always in demand, and your contribution can help save the lives of those in need. Check local blood donation centers, such as the American Red Cross, for opportunities to give this November.

7. Support a Local Food Bank or Pantry

Food is a basic need, and supporting your local food bank or pantry is a great way to give back, especially as the holidays are near. Consider donating to organizations like NeighborGood Food Pantry, and the Food Bank of the Heartland to help ensure that no one in your community goes hungry.

8. Community Clean-Up

Participating in a community clean-up event is not only good for the environment but also the community spirit. Join or start your own local clean-up effort to make your neighborhood a cleaner, more beautiful place to live.

9. Donate Unused Clothing & Household Items

Fall is a great time to go through our wardrobes and pass on clothing items we no longer need, as well as other household items. Consider donating these items to local organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul OmahaChildren’s Nebraska Donation Drop Box, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands, which are dedicated to supporting the community through your contributions. When it comes to larger household items like furniture, letting go can be a challenge. That’s where the Furniture Project comes in, providing essential items to those who have experienced unexpected hardships, with a special focus on furniture.
