July’s Driving Good Youth & Mentor Spotlight is Will Frazer! Will is a Service Technician Apprentice at H+H Dodge Jeep & Ram. Will is mentored by Justin Kolb, Service Technician at the same location. Will has the benefit of rotating mentors every few months as part of his apprenticeship!

If you could describe your experience at H+H in one word, what would it be?

What new skills have you obtained during your apprenticeship?
I have obtained a lot of great skills so far in my apprenticeship. I have learned how to ask for help which is a struggle for me most of the time. We have a lot of great people at H+H who are always willing to help and give advice. I have also learned how to problem-solve.
Customer vehicles come in with all sorts of different issues/concerns. This has taught me how to think outside the box to understand the issue and how to repair it. Lastly, I have learned how to manage my time. Managing time as a technician is a big part of making a living in this job. It’s important to understand how to divide time between diagnosing and fixing cars so that you can maximize the number of cars you repair in a week, which is a necessary skill.
How do you think your apprenticeship will benefit you in your career exploration/advancement?
I believe my apprenticeship will benefit my advancement in this field. Learning how to repair vehicles now while I’m still learning, shows me real problems and everyday issues vehicles have so I know what to look for when I eventually go on my own.
Knowing how vehicles work will also help me talk to customers and explain to them what exactly is going on with their vehicle.
A lot of the areas we cover apply to several manufacture vehicles, so I use this knowledge on a variety of different brands.
