Q&A with Josh
In what ways has being a mentor positively impacted you the most?
Becoming a mentor has positively impacted me by helping me develop my own skills while also teaching others new ones. I have learned how to be more patient and I often gain new perspectives from those I mentor. Explaining more complex concepts or offering advice in ways that are clear and supportive has helped me with communication skills as well.
How have you seen your leadership progress since becoming a mentor?
As a mentor, I have learned that we all make mistakes and learning from those is how to improve and become better. Mentoring others has boosted my own confidence, as I have had to use my own experience and knowledge to guide others. I have taken more of a step back recently and allowed my intern to take ownership of their achievements while also learning from failures. Overall, mentoring has shifted my focus from just leading by example to also empowering others to grow and succeed. Seeing the growth of all of the interns is incredibly rewarding. Knowing I played a role in the success of others brings much satisfaction.
What is one fun fact about you?
I am an avid collector of socks. I have well over 200 pairs of different socks. No single pair is like another and none of them are plain, single colored. It has grown to quite the collection, from game day socks to holiday pairs and even scenes from movies. I tend to match my socks with what I am wearing and that’s how it grew to the collection that it is today.
