August’s Driving Good Youth & Mentor Spotlight is Alex Scribner and Dustin Morrill!
Alex and Dustin work at ONYX Automotive with BMW in the service department. Alex is an Apprentice Service Technician in the H+H University program. Dustin is Alex’s mentor and a Service technician.
Alex graduated from Bellevue East High School in 2023. He learned of H+H youth programs from the Bellevue Frank Kumor Career Center where members of the H+H present all the offerings of its youth programs.
Q&A with Alex
In your transition from school to the workplace, what has had the biggest impact on you?
I think the biggest impact on my transition from school to the workforce was the opportunity I was given in the H+H University Apprenticeship program. Additionally, the extra time Chris D. takes out of his day to teach the H+H University classes. My mentor Dustin has also spent time with me to provide guidance where I need it in my job.
Is there a person or a moment at work that has had a positive impact on you?
I have experienced many moments where work has made a positive impact on me. The biggest one is when I’m having some trouble with a diagnosis and my coworkers help me out.
Tell us one fun fact about you.
I like to be outside in nature over being inside. I feel the most free when I’m in my hometown in Colorado.
Q&A with Dustin
In what ways has being a mentor positively impacted you the most?
Being a mentor has positively impacted me by adding more purpose to my work. In addition to serving our customers, I get to help Alex learn and develop, which helps to build the company in a small way.
How have you seen your leadership progress since becoming a mentor?
I’ve seen my leadership progress by becoming more trusting. I can trust Alex to do quality work on our customers’ cars, and if something isn’t going right, he will bring it to my attention. Alex sees the importance of ensuring that a customer’s car is fixed right the first time.
Tell us one fun fact about you.
I’ve recently gotten into 3D printing and I’m learning CAD.
