A Smarter Screen for the Big Truck: Inside the 2027 Silverado 1500’s New Infotainment Interface

Chevrolet’s 2027 Silverado 1500 debuts a rebuilt infotainment interface with a split-view home screen, smarter towing tools, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built right in. Here’s what Omaha drivers should know.

If you drive a full-size pickup in Omaha, your truck’s screen gets a real workout.

It’s the navigation on a Friday-night trip to Lincoln, the camera view when you back a boat down a ramp at Lake McConaughy, and the music for the slow crawl on I-80 near the Council Bluffs interchange.

So when General Motors unveiled a ground-up redesign of its in-cabin interface on September 15, 2026, and said it would debut on the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, it was worth a close look.

Here’s what’s new, and what it could mean for those of us who live and drive in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

One Home Screen That Does More

The headline change is the new default home screen: a split view. A large, interactive map sits on one side.

Beside it, depending on what you’re doing, you’ll see trailering metrics, fuel-efficiency data, or media controls.

The practical idea is that you shouldn’t have to leave your map to change the music or check on the truck.

GM says you can browse audio and manage vehicle details without leaving navigation.

Anyone who has lost their route on the way to Westroads while hunting for a podcast will appreciate that.

There’s also a customizable Quick Access window that puts your most-used settings one tap away.

And GM says climate, audio, and camera controls stay where drivers expect them, with physical controls remaining in the cabin.

Reports on the new system note that GM built it around customer complaints about confusing menus and hard-to-find controls.

That matters on a January morning on West Dodge Road, when you want the defrost on and your gloves are still on.
